This week, as part of the FY 2024-2025 budget planning process, Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) Superintendent, Dr. Marc Whichard, released his proposed budget during the monthly Board of Education Meeting. The proposed $202 million budget works to address the following Board and district priorities while working to maintain a balanced budget:

  • Safety & Security

  • Warm and inviting facilities

  • Sustainability beyond ESSER funding

  • Employee benefits

  • Efficient building utilization (Student reassignment, renovations or new school construction, etc.)

  • Continued conservative fiscal practices and Building of fund balance

The Superintendent’s Proposed Budget can be reviewed by clicking on Proposed Budget. Members of the public can provide input about the proposed budget by clicking on Public Input. The comments deadline is Tuesday, April 30.

“As reflected in my proposed budget, you will find recommendation plans for wise investments in safety and security, long needed campus improvements, and the rightsizing of our campus facility usage,” states Dr. Whichard. “Wise planning and sound budgetary practices are beginning to emerge as hallmarks for our district. That accomplishment is one that we can all be proud of, and which serves as the foundation for our fiscal plans in the coming year.”

A copy of the budget will also be available at the district’s Central Services located on Royall Avenue. Members of the public can review the proposed budget during regular business hours.

The Board will finalize its budget for approval at its regularly scheduled Board Meeting on May 6.
