Classified Employee Experience Credit Procedure

As of January 1, 2023, only Wayne County Public Schools new hires will be award job related prior experience at two different rates based on whether or not the experience was public or private sector employment:

  • Public Sector - North Carolina State, Local County Government and Federal/Military experience will be awarded full credit, one year of credit for every one year of experience; and

  • Private Sector – Business and Industry experience in similar jobs will be awarded at a rate of one year of credit for every two years of relevant experience, not to exceed five years of credit.

  • Private Sector - Transportation and Maintenance Departments ONLY - Business and Industry experience in similar jobs will be awarded at a rate of one year of credit for every two years of experience, with a maximum up to 10 years of experience for the following positions: Shop Foreman, Mechanic I & II, HVAC I, II, III, Boiler, Roofer, Plumber I,II, III, Painter I & II, Carpenter I, II,   III,  and Electrician I, II, III. 

Documentation for experience credit must include employee’s Record of Aggregated State of North Carolina Service Form and/or WCPS Verification of Employment for Salary Placement Form. Any documentation for experience credit must include whether the job was part-time or full-time; the number of hours worked per week; and a brief description of the job duties.
