Students please focus your full attention and efforts on finishing our 2023-24 school year strong! Our Class of 2024 Graduation Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024 at 9:00 AM on our Hardy Talton Stadium Field! Each graduate will be provided 7 tickets for the ceremony with 4 of those tickets being designated for indoor use in our new gym should we need to move our ceremony inside due to inclement weather. We will have Mandatory Graduation practice for all Class of 2024 graduates from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, June 10th, 2024. Congratulations to our CBA Golden Falcons Marching Band member, Josephine Simmons on her successful audition for the Macy’s Great American Marching Band! Josephine will march in the 98th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade on November 28th, 2024. Honoring America’s finest high school musicians, color guard members and dancers, this band will be comprised of 185 hand picked musicians from across the United States. “Once again, this prestigious band will take an honor position among the gigantic helium balloons, impressive floats carrying celebrities, and the nation’s top marching bands. Stepping off from Central Park, the Band will be cheered by the 3.5 million spectators lining the parade route. Arriving at Macy’s Herald Square, the Band will perform for celebrity hosts, a grandstand audience, and more than 50 million TV viewers watching the broadcast live on NBC.” Josephine worked extremely hard to perfect her audition and deserves this tremendous honor! As we move into May, we have now officially hit the short rows of our 2023-24 school year! With only 23 more school days until our Final Exams, we need everyone to have a singular focus to our mission of high quality teaching and learning from bell to bell in every class, every day, for every student! With that being said, we ask for our students and parents to help us with the following: Attendance - it is more important than ever that all students attend school everyday from here to the finish! Tardies - we need all students to get to class on time to protect our instructional time! No students in the hallways during instructional time. The sign of a great school as we truly focus 100% of our efforts on preparing our students for our final exams and finishing the school year strong! Adherence to dress code, so as to not become a distraction to our educational environment! Adherence to our disciplinary expectations, so as to maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly school for our academic pursuits! On Friday April 12th, 2024 before our Varsity home baseball game vs. Fike, we are going to recognize the members of the 1974 state championship baseball team! The 50th Anniversary for these 1974 NCHSAA - Baseball 3A State Champions! (Game is scheduled for 7:00 PM - Celebration around 6:30 PM) 1974 CBA State 3A Baseball Champs: Front row, left to right: Dell Kennedy (deceased), Beau Crumpler, Richard Lancaster, Randy Taylor, Frankie Davis, Derwin Hawley, Glenn Lancaster, Joe Durham. Back row, left to right: Coach Bud King, Jerry Price, Gary Davis, Randy Pittman, Tommy Herndon, Ed Finch (deceased), Curly Summerlin, Parker Davis. Not pictured: Team Bat Girls: Jean Evans Milleson, Sheila Crumpler Sutton, Rhonda Lancaster Nichols Team scorekeeper: Sandy Sirts The CBA ‘74 State 3A Champs: Started ‘74 season with 4-5 record (tied for 7th place at that time!) From that point, proceeded to win 15 straight games. Secured 1st place seeding in the conference. Won first 2 games against Jamestown-Ragsdale in the best of 3 series in High Point, NC for the state 3A Championship Ended the season with a 19-5 record The CBA ‘74 State 3A Champs were a team with a coach & players of strong character & a strong desire to win. This team loved & respected the game of baseball. This was a team that respected each player as well, whether they were a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior - a very important team trait, as this team consisted of 4 starting Sophomores. We would like to pay special tribute to 1 of those 4 starting Sophomores this evening that is no longer with us. Ed Finch passed away April 7, 2022. He was the starting shortstop for the ‘74 CBA Champs, and, as was each member of this team, he was an integral part of this team’s amazing 15 game winning streak. His impact on this team, his impact on his family & friends, & his impact on the Wayne & Wilson County community will long be remembered by many folks. Today, April 12, 2024, happens to be Ed’s 66th birthday, as well as the 2 year anniversary of his life celebration. His wife, Nora, & 2 daughters, Leah & Leslie, are here this evening to represent Ed for the team.
