This past week we received some amazing news at EWHS! Due to your child's hard work this past school year and our amazing and dedicated staff, EWHS is no longer a low performing school. EWHS moved from a D school to a C school. This is a huge accomplishment for us. However, the job is not done! We must continue to succeed and work hard each and every day!
As a reminder students, it is imperative that you attend school daily and get to class on time. Tardies add up to unexcused absences and we do not want those avoidable absences to cause you to not succeed and reach your full potential.
If you still need bus assistance, please see your homeroom teacher and communicate these needs to them.
Parking passess are still available for purchase for $20. Students who do not have a parking pass can not park on campus. Violation of parking will result in parking citation.
Parents, our carpool drop off and pick up location is located on the left side of the campus by the football field. With that being said, please do not drop off your child in any other area of campus, except for when you are bringing your child to school after the 8:00 start time. We have tightened up this process to ensure you can get in and out of the parking lot in a timely manner. Please communicate with your student to arrive at the designated pick up location as quickly as possible at the end of the school day.
Attention all 17 year olds and seniors! There is a state law that all students who are seniors or aged 17 (whichever comes first) must have their 2nd MCV vaccine within 30 days of turning 17 or within the first 30 days of school for seniors. After the 30th day, which is September the 30th, students who have not received their MCV vaccines are not permitted to attend school until they are in compliance. Our school nurse will be reviewing and sending home letters this week as well as each month as students turn 17.
There are several athletic events going on this week! We hope that you can come on out and support our Warriors! On Monday Volleyball will have a home match against Greene Central beginning at 4:00. On Tuesday, Volleyball will travel to Beddingfield at 4:00 and Soccer will have a home match against Wayne Prep at 5:00. On Wednesday, Cross Country will have a meet at the Bryan Complex in Goldsboro beginning at 4:00. On Thursday, Volleyball will have a home match against N. Johnston beginning at 4:00. To wrap up our sports week, our Varsity football team will host Washington for a 7:00 kickoff! We hope to see you all at our events supporting our Warrior Athletes and Athletic Booster Club. And if you haven’t heard! EWHS is on the national map! With an amazing grab by Charlie Thomas, from Izeiah Oates this past Friday night, this play made ESPN Top 10. Way to go guys!
This is a reminder that ALL middle school students that come to any athletic event here at EWHS, must be accompanied by a paid adult. That adult is responsible for that student while attending the event. After discussing with surrounding middle school principals and our Superintendent, Dr. Whichard, we feel this is necessary to ensure safety on our campuses due to the recent behavior that has occurred at our home athletic events this year with our middle school students. Thank you for your understanding with this matter.

Eastern Wayne FFA Chapter held their Warrior Welcome Back Cookout. This event was held to engage members and encourage new members to join this school year. We shared a meal, played some games and heard some exciting opportunities for this upcoming school year! #edubb #FFA #warriors
Congratulations to senior Gwyneth Terrell, for winning 1st place in the high school art division at the Freedom Festival! Students across Wayne County participated in this contest, including WCPS, homeschool, and charter schools. We are incredibly proud of her tribute to first responders and the excellence she brought to this competition. E-Dub has talent!!!

Good Evening Warrior Students and Parents, this is your Principal, Mr. Jones. I want to begin by saying that we had an amazing first week of school at EWHS! We kicked off the week with our grade level meetings. In these meetings we discussed many topics including, dress code, attendance and student code of conduct expectations! The staff have been doing an amazing job getting to know your students. The students have been receptive to these expectations and I can’t wait to see what this year holds for us!
Just a reminder that tomorrow, Monday, September 2nd is Labor Day! There will be no school or after school activities tomorrow.
Starting this week, we will begin our regular daily schedule. Students will report directly to 1st Period upon arrival on campus. Followed by 2nd Period, HR, 3rd Period and 4th Period!

Carpool has gotten better each day this week. The administrative team along with the help of our SRO have been tweaking the plan each day to ensure a speedy, but safe pick up and drop off process. Good Evening Warrior Students and Parents, this is your Principal, Mr. Jones, welcoming you to another fantastic year at Eastern Wayne High School. The staff have been working hard these last few days preparing for your return and they are excited to see you this school year.
Please listen carefully to this message, so that you will get all the information you need to start this week of great!
Students, your school day is from 8:00 to 3:00. Let's make a conscious effort to be on time each and every day to school.
The first week of school we will follow our Extended Homeroom Schedule. Students are to report to their homeroom classes upon arrival at school. Just a reminder that Homeroom is an expectation of all students to attend and attendance will be taken during homeroom time each day. After homeroom this week, students will follow their schedule from 1st Period - 4th Period. During Extended Homeroom, we will have grade level meetings beginning on Tuesday, August 27th. 9th Graders will have their meeting on Tuesday. 10th Graders will have their meeting on Wednesday. 11th Graders will have their meeting on Thursday and our Seniors will have their meeting on Friday. During these meetings we will talk about attendance, club plans, daily schedules, the WCPS Student Code of Conduct as well as student expectations while at Eastern Wayne High School.
We ask that you have patience with our bus arrival times picking up your students as there may be some delays due to traffic and bus drivers adjusting to their routes. We ask students if they have a bus need or concern to please inform their homeroom teacher and they will direct the information to Ms. Sutton who is one of our Assistant Principals that handles all bus issues and concerns.
For the 2024-2025 school year we will be implementing a new traffic pattern. With feedback given by the NCDOT, our new students drop off and pick up area will be located in the old student parking lot by the football field. We ask that parents stay in the carpool lane and not drop off students at areas that are not designated. We want to ensure safety for all students. Our student parking lot will now be located behind the cafeteria, in front of the old gym. This parking lot received a fresh makeover over the weekend with fresh blacking coating and striping. If your child needs a parking pass, they may pick one up during homeroom. As a convenience to everyone, there is signage at all entrances that give direction of where to go.
EWHS Athletics is off and running this year. This week we have several sporting events going on so please come out and support our Warriors. Tuesday, we have JV and Varsity girls volleyball at 4:00 as well as boys soccer at 6:00. On Thursday, we have JV Boys football at C.B. Aycock beginning at 6:30. On Friday night to wrap up our week, we will have a home Varsity football game at 7:00. We hope to see everyone there.

EWHS Club recruitment day! Students had the opportunity to sign up for over a dozen clubs during lunch. Club and career days will be held every other Wednesday starting Oct. 4. Make sure you connect with club advisors and student leaders if you are interested.
We are building a culture of College and Career Readiness and Awareness. Teachers and students have the opportunity to wear their favorite college gear. Students are encouraged to ask questions about the different colleges, degrees and careers. Our first college spotlighted was ECU. Did you know we have twelve staff members who graduated from ECU with degrees in School Administration, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, History, Counselor Education, English, Writing/Minor:Art,Manufacturing Technology,Psychology, and Curriculum & Instruction.
