In December, a group of 4th graders helped to collect food for those in need and donated it to a local food pantry. The representatives from The GWC ( Goldsboro Worship Center) Food Pantry came to say thank you to our kiddos for their generous donation. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., “The time is always right to do the right thing.” Way to go Carver!! Thank you Carver students for your generous donation to the food pantry.

Carver Cares this Christmas 🎄 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄 Carver 4th grade students collected non perishable items for a local food pantry this year. The students had read a book entitled , “Holidays Around the World.” In the text they learned that many Winter Holidays help the “less fortunate “. This inspired the students to do something those in need . For the both of December students brought in can foods, oatmeal, cereal and other non perishable foods. Mrs. Karla Smith, the principal, heard about the students’ efforts and brought in items to show her support too. The items collected will be used to restock a local food pantry in Wayne County.

We are SHOUTING CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. Kelly Herring and Miss Courtney Butler! These two Second Grade teachers thought outside the box and won grant that our entire school will get to enjoy! A message from Ms.Kelly Herring about the grant: Mrs. Smith encouraged us to think of ideas for grants this year. Mrs. Courtney Butler and I have been so blessed within our classrooms, we wanted to do something for Carver as a whole!! After brainstorming ideas, we decided that Carver Elementary could use a safe place, where teachers could think outside the box, and get students outdoors. Studies so that sunshine and fresh air help relieve stress and open the mind. Carver Elementary does not have any outdoor spaces currently. We are super excited to announce we will be breaking ground on a year round garden and outdoor classroom space. This space will be used by students, staff, teachers, community members, and tutors. Courtney and I hope the space would be used for groups activities, projects, lessons, presentations, and many other purposes. The garden will have flowers, vegetables, herbs, annuals, and perennials. Teachers will have the opportunity to select a space in the gardens and grow a “classroom plant” of their own. We will have a watering and weeding chart and get as many staff, students, and teachers outdoors enjoying one another and learning! Below are some inspirational pictures of gardens and outdoor learning classrooms. They will be the guide for our space at Carver.

School is approaching quickly, and I wanted to let everyone know of an opportunity to obtain any missing vaccinations for your child. Lenoir County Health Department is offering walk-in vaccination hours on the days listed below. As you are aware, many vaccinations must be up to date within the first 30 days of school to avoid being excluded from school per the North Carolina law. Please do not wait until the last minute because many places become quickly booked. If you are wondering if your child is missing anything, please reach out to me. I will look at the record and let you know for sure. Once we return to school, I will begin sending out the 30 day notices so that we may remain in compliance. We want to have a healthy and happy school year. Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks, Kari Yarrow, RN, BSN School Nurse
