Below is an important message from Dr. Marc A. Whichard, WCPS Superintendent:

"Good evening parents and students, this is an important announcement from Wayne County Public Schools Superintendent Marc Whichard.

Recently, we have seen, along with many other school districts nationwide, an increase in on-line threats made to the safety of our campuses.

With the partnership of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, these types of crimes have been solved within a few hours and arrests have been made.  In fact, within the past week, law enforcement has arrested two individuals for making two separate social media threats against schools.  To be clear, we will prosecute individuals who are responsible, and in the case of minors, their parents, to the fullest extent of the law.  These types of incidents disrupt and distract from our mission of providing instruction to our students.

Parents are encouraged to pay close attention to what your students are doing and saying on social media and other online platforms. We take these matters seriously.  The safety of our staff and students are our number one priority.

We thank you in advance for your support with this matter.  Have a good evening."
