Approximately 300 student vocalists from Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) will soon come together in one voice to showcase their musical talents in an evening of performances. On Tuesday, April 11, the school district will hold its 2017 All County Choral Festival at 6:30 PM at Goldsboro High School. The event is free to the public to attend. Twenty-eight schools will be represented.
“This is an event our district and school communities look forward to each year,” states Kim Copeland, Director Specialist. “We appreciate the hard work of the participating students, assisting music teachers and chorus directors, and of course our guest conductors whose collective efforts make the annual All County Choral Festival an evening to remember.”
The All County Choral Festival will be divided into three programs, which will be performed by elementary, middle, and high school students. An accomplished professional will direct each talented group of singers. The elementary school chorus will be directed by Christy White, the music teacher at Banks Elementary School in Kinston. The middle school chorus will be directed by David Dobbins, the choral director at Southeast Guilford Middle. The high school chorus will be directed by retired music educator, Carol Riggs. Greenwood Middle assistant principal, Justin Bruyer, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
“There are a lot of moving parts to make this event a success, and organizing it is a team effort,” adds Ms. Copeland. “I would like to extend my personal thanks to Jason Cox, our Lead Choral Teacher, for his support. In addition to working with all of the music teachers and choral directors leading up to the event, he organizes a full day of rehearsal prior to the concerts for students to practice their selections with the guest conductors.”
Choral Directors from each school selected the participating students for their vocal ability and work ethic. Musical selections will include Where the Music Comes From, The Beautiful Rain, Busy, Busy Bumblebee, Alleluia! Jubilate! , Cantate Hodie!, Stars I Shall Find , Mirrors,
Soon I Will Be Done, Famine Song, My Shepherd Will Supply My Need, Molihua, and Walk Together Children.
